Want to Join?

Thinking softball might be the summer activity for you, but need a bit more information? If we haven’t answered your questions below, then contact us via email or Facebook and we will be happy to help you out!

If you are thinking of joining and have never played, played when you were a kid, haven’t played in years, or played every summer since you were born then we welcome you! The ECRSA is a noncompetitive league dedicated to getting people active, getting people out, getting people to meet others, and for the love of softball.

If you have decided to join the ECRSA you will need:

  • Baseball Glove
  • Appropriate footwear (sneakers or non-metal cleats)
  • Appropriate pants or shorts
  • Water

You may also want to consider:

  • Hats and/or sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Softball bat (bats are provided by the league)
  • Batting helmet
  • Batter’s glove

Why play for the ECRSA?

The ECRSA is an inclusive softball league, that emphasizes community engagement and fun. You don’t need to have any prior experience. We have team captains that will help you learn the basics of the game. The rest of it can be learned on the field.

What are the fees to play?

Fees for 2017 season are $85.00 per full-time player ($87.50 via PayPal) and pays for the entire season!

How do I sign up?

We typically open registration in March. We have online registration but we also hold registration events to allow players to meet in person, ask questions, and sign up.

How long is the season?

The regular season typically starts the first weekend after Victoria Day with play on Sunday afternoons. We don’t usually have regular play games during long weekends. The season typically wraps in mid-to-late September and the playoffs usually take up a whole weekend at the end of September. Check out the schedule for more.

Where and when are games played?

All regular season games and the end of season playoffs will be played at St. Francis Field in Gorsebrook Park. The Pride Tournament will be played at the Halifax Commons. A schedule of all ECRSA games, tournaments and events can be found online and can be easily transferred to your desktop, laptop, tablet and/or smartphone.

Is the field accessible by public transit?

Yes, the field is accessible by public transit. To plan your trip to the weekly game, we recommend the HRM Metro Transit’s trip planner.

Where can I park my vehicle?

Street parking is free on Sundays. Using Google maps, select the satellite view to gain a better perspective of available parking options.

How do I know if the game is cancelled due to weather conditions?

We will announce any game cancellations via Facebook and Twitter on the day of the game. We are not on HRM Fields, so we do NOT follow the HRM Recreation Rainout field policy.

How many teams are in the league?

Registration varies – some years we have had 6, some as many as 10. Each team is delegated two captains to coordinate practices, and ensure the overall functioning of the team. The number of teams depends on the amount of players who register (so bring a friend!).

What other events does the ECRSA organize?

We hold an annual tournament in celebration of Pride Week in Halifax (previously known as Kick Off to Pride). This tournament is optional (not part of the regular season play). Also, the very popular Dykes vs. Divas game is hosted by the ECRSA and Halifax Pride. We also try to put on social events for players to meet each other.

I also want to help/be a part of the Commission, is this possible?

Volunteers are always welcome! The positions are voted on by players of the ECRSA. Your Commission can be viewed here. If anything changes like a new position opens up or a current ones needs to be filled then we will put a posting out to the members.

There are a couple of committees that always need volunteers. The  KOTP, Pride and Social Events committee need people! If you are interested in helping out, please email us.

If you are set to register this season, please ‘like’ us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter to stay informed on registration events.

See you on the fields!
